Abstract
985,513. Cathode-ray tubes. RANK-BUSH MURPHY. Ltd. April. 18, 1962 [April 20, 1961], No..14278/61. Heading H1D. A front-projection cathode-ray tube, i.e. of the type wherein an optical image is projected from that surface of a luminescent screen upon which an electron beam is caused to impinge comprises a tubular neck portion 1 and a generally cylindrical body portion 4 closed at one end by a planar optical window 5 perpendicular to the axis of symmetry of the body portion and carrying within it a luminescent screen 7 arranged on a support 6 so disposed that the normal 12 to its surface at the point at which it is intersected by a line representing the direction of the undeflected electron beam is incident upon the window at a point displaced from the axis in the direction away from the neck. The angle of incidence of the normal upon the window is preferably of the order of 6 degrees, and the screen may be carried upon a portion of the envelope as described in Specification 985,514 or upon a supporting member separate from and supported within its envelope.
