Abstract
984,178. Tyre removing apparatus. MANN EGERTON & CO. Ltd. Feb. 14, 1964 [Feb. 15, 1963], No. 6316/63. Heading B7C. A tyre remover comprises an axially reciprocable pillar, a wheel support 10 arranged to locate and retain a wheel in a stationary position concentric with the pillar, and a carrier 14 rotatably supported by the pillar and provided with radially extending arms 18, each of which pivotally mounts a tyre removing finger 19 having its free end inturned towards the pillar to engage the bead region of a tyre 21, together with pneumatic or hydraulic operating means to effect axial reciprocation of the pillar relative to the wheel support 10. The pillar comprises a rod 1 and an extension member 3 which is coupled to the rod by a bayonet joint. The rod 1 carries two pistons 8, 9 which reciprocate vertically within a, cylinder 2 which is secured to the floor. The cylinder 2 is both double-acting and singleacting so that the flow of fluid to the cylinder urges the fingers 19, with maximum force, to their tyre-releasing positions, and, with lighter force, to return to their initial positions. The carrier 14 is located on the pillar by pins selectably inserted through axially spaced holes 16 in the extension member 3. Each finger 19 is prevented from swinging away from the pillar beyond its vertical position.
