Abstract

983,618. Telegraphy. SIEMENS &HALSKE A.G. June 19, 1963 [June 20, 1962], No. 24343/63. Heading H4P. The invention provides an apparatus for receiving signals at one speed and for re-transmitting them at another speed or the same speed. It comprises input and output stores and is characterized in that a character is passed from one store to the other only during the stop pulse of that character. Received signals from l1 are fed via unit EE, where the start and stop bits are removed, to input store ESp. From this store characters are transferred to output store ASp, either direct or via tape store BSp. Store ASp is read out at a selected speed, signals passing via unit AE, where start and stop bits are replaced, to line 12. The manner of operation depends upon the relative speeds of the signals on l1 and 12; (a) If the speed of 11 is the greater, stored ASp and ESp will gradually fill to capacity. When ASp reaches 120 bits switch k1 is opened. Subsequent received characters are now transferred to tape store BSp whenever the input store is filled to 120 bits, transference taking place in blocks of 120 bits. Output store ASp has a main capacity of 120 bits and a reserve capacity of 90 bits. If k1 is open, whenever the total unfilled capacity of the store becomes 120 bits a block of that length is transferred from the tape to the store for subsequent transmission. Switch k1 is closed again only when there is no data in the tape store. (b) If the speed of l2 is greater than that of l1, k1 remains closed and characters are transferred between the input and output stores during the stop bit, as determined by counter FZ1.
