Abstract

982,559. Stud and socket fastenings; catch fastenings. INGERSOLL-RAND CO. April 22, 1963 [May 8, 1962],No. 15714/63. Headings E2A and E2B. [Also in Division B4] A guide sleeve 42 for the needles 28 of a descaling tool 10 is slidably mounted on the body 11 of the descaling tool and is provided with a locking collar 45 for securing it in a plurality of predetermined positions. The sleeve extends over the anvil 13 carrying the needles 28 and is provided with a series of slots 44 such that when a particular slot is aligned with an annular slot 40 formed in the body 11, a tang 47 formed on the locking collar 45 penetrates both slots and thereby locks the sleeve to the body. To re-position the sleeve, the collar is first rotated so that a cam surface 48 on the tang rides over the outer surface of the sleeve as shown in Fig. 4, the sleeve then axially moved to bring another slot 44 into alignment with the slot 40, and the collar finally rotated and axially moved to re-engage the tang with the slots. The anvil 13 is retained in the body 11 by means of a ball 32 engaging with a groove 37 in the anvil, the ball being released from the groove by means of a rotary sleeve 34. In a modification the sleeve 42 may be arranged to slide within the body 11, the latter being provided with a number of slots.
