Abstract
Electrostatic charges on synthetic thermoplastic materials are eliminated by incorporation of e.g. 0.5-5%, before hot-processing, of bis-quaternary ammonium halides having a cation of formula <FORM:0982268/C3/1> where R is unsubstituted or substituted alkyl, aralkyl or cycloalkyl radical which may be linked in pairs directly or through a hetero atom and M is a substituted or unsubstituted phenylene or alkylene radical, the latter of which may be interrupted by a hetero atom. The thermoplastic material may be polystyrene, polyethylene, polypropylene, a polyamide or a polyester. The hot processing may be used to form the composition into rods, plates, sheets, foils, fibres or filaments. Numerous halides are exemplified.
