Abstract

982,166. Waveguide mode filters. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Feb. 14, 1963, No. 6033/63. Heading H1W. A mode filter for the suppression of TM waves in a circular or square waveguide 11 intended for the propagation in two or more mutually perpendicular planes of TE mode waves, comprises a resistive element 14 arranged parallel to the axis of the guide. As shown, the element is supported on the axis of the guide by a plug 13 of foamed polystyrene. The element may consist of a nylon or glass rod coated with graphite. Alternatively, a number of coated rods or fibres insulated from one another may be used. An alternative method of support consists of radial threads of insulating material.
