Abstract

981,728. Dishwashing machines. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. May 2, 1962 [May 5, 1961], No. 16834/62. Heading A4F. An automatic dish-washing machine is characterized by an extensible rotatable member pivotally mounted in the tub and adapted for receiving washing liquid, and which is in a lowered position when not receiving liquid and in a raised position in response to liquid pressure. The upper end of the extensible member has flow restricting means to direct the flow of liquid into a thin sheet which revolves within the tub as the member rotates. A dishwashing machine has dish racks 23 and 24, Fig. 1, and rotatable spray arms 32 and 37 at lower and upper levels of the tub 9. Washing at an intermediate level is carried out by the rotatable spray tube 66 which is so telescopically mounted in housing 39 that when liquid is applied to the spray structure, the spray tube functions as a piston and is raised uncovering orifices 70 and 71, Fig. 4 from which are discharged sprays B. In addition the upper end of the tube has a flow restricting means with an off-centre baffle (not shown) to provide a double orifice resulting in sprays C and D. When the liquid flow ceases, spray tube 66 falls under gravity to a full retracted position and thus affords no obstacle to the loading of dish rack 24.
