Abstract

In a stay-hinge for a window or the like, e.g. of the type with scissor links 14,16, a slider 18 connecting the end of a link 14 to the frame-mounted guide rail 10 is selectively locked in position by a rotatable locking means 40 comprising an element 54 adapted to engage with a locking formation 74 on the rail 30, the element and formation being so formed that when they are in approximate registration their engagement as the locking means 40 is rotated causes the slider to move a short distance along the rail as necessary to produce exact registration for locking. A spring 70 urges a component 42 bearing the element 54 upwards into the release position but on rotation of the component camming wings 62,64 engage under flanges 26 of the rail to lower the component while at the same time the element 54 cams the slider along the rail as it engages the edge of slot 74.
