A desk has an invertible top 20, its two faces formed respectively as a drawing board and as a desk or table top, connected to a base 10 by links 30, which are pivoted about spaced horizontal parallel axes to the base portion 10 and to the top 20 at a point adjacent to one edge thereof, so that the top can be pivoted from a horizontal position with its face 21 resting on the base 10 to an inclined position with its face 21 uppermost and one edge resting on the base 10 and the other supported by the links 30. The links 30 are pivotally mounted on a horizontal bar which is surrounded by a sleeve 36 and has a screw thread 33 at one end engaging a nut 34. When the bar is rotated the links 30 are clamped between the sleeve 36 and bars 38 and held in their inclined position. The upper ends of the links 30 may be pivoted directly to the top 20 or via a link 42. The drawing board face 21 has a parallel rule arranged to move over its surface with associated guide means housed between the two faces 21, 22.
