979,364. Mixing and kneading apparatus. BUSS A.G. Sept. 20, 1963 [Sept. 28, 1962], No. 37010/63. Heading B1C. A continuous mixing and kneading apparatus has a screw 2 which is simultaneously rotated and axially reciprocated and has interrrupted flights 3 ; the housing 1 has inwardly directed teeth 4 which pass through the gaps 5 between the flights. The gaps 5 may be filled by elements 6 which may be inserted after the corresponding teeth 4 have been removed in order that the performance of the apparatus may be adapted to the specific volume of the materials to be worked. The kneading effect may be varied as desired in different zones of the apparatus by appropriate arrangement of the elements 6.
