Abstract
979,334. Moulding sliding-clasp fasteners. T. YOSHIDA. March 17, 1961 [Jan. 31, 1961], No. 9903/61. Heading B5A. An apparatus for producing sliding-clasp fasteners with synthetic resin elements comprises a fixed and a movable mould section 2, 1 respectively, between which fastener tapes 8 are passed and held by passage over rollers 19, 27, 28 and 19<SP>1</SP>, the rollers 19, 19<SP>1</SP> moving up and down with the mould section 1 through the action of pairs of racks 22, 24 and intermeshing pinions 25, the tapes being intermittently wound and held in tension by a driven roller 31, an injection cylinder 13 to force material into the mould, when closed, to form fastener elements on the tapes 8, and a wedge-shaped scraper member 30 fitted in an annular groove in the roller 28 to remove a runner 38 and gates 39, Fig. 14, from the moulded elements as they pass round the roller 28. In operation fastener tapes 8 are fed into the apparatus from rolls 36. The tapes 8 are made thicker at the edge where the elements are formed, the mould sections 1, 2 having grooves to accommodate these thicker edges, the ends of these grooves being rounded to ensure proper alignment of the tapes as they slide into place. The mould section 1 is hydraulically lowered to clamp the tapes and synthetic resin is injected through a nozzle 14 to form the elements. The mould section 1 is raised taking the tapes and formed elements with it until ejector pins 9 abut a plate 10 and push the elements out of the mould section 1 as the section 1 rises further. The take-up driver roller 31 is then rotated to pull the tapes from between the mould sections round the friction roller 28 to remove the runner 38 into a shoot 46, the tapes with the moulded elements passing further round rollers 19<SP>1</SP> and 37. The roller 31 is driven through an electromagnetic clutch (not shown) controlled by switches 32, 33, 34. As the mould section 1 is raised a member 41 operates the switch 32 to energize the electromagnetic clutch so that the roller 31 rotates. An automatic counter device 35 which rotates with the roller 31 cuts out the electromagnetic clutch after a length L of the tapes has been wound. As the mould section 1 descends on the next cycle of the apparatus, switch 33 is operated to again energize the electromagnetic clutch so that the roller 31 again rotates. The switch 33 also energizes an electromagnet 47 actuating a clutch (not shown) between the friction roller 28 and a pinion (not shown) which engages with a toothed rack 50. The rack 50 then rises as the friction roller 28 rotates until the switch 34 is operated by a contact 51 which stops the roller 31 after a length L<SP>1</SP> of the tapes has passed. Each set of elements on the tapes 8 is then separated by a distance L<SP>1</SP>.
