Abstract

In the production of a polymer solution from which polyurethane filaments are extruded, polytetramethylene ether glycol, pre-dried by treatment with a molecular sieve, and p,p1-methylene-diphenyl diisocyanate are mixed in a reverse centrifugal mixer and discharged into a jacketed pipeline serving as a reactor in which the polyether glycol is "capped" with 2 mols of the diisocyanate to yield an isocyanate-terminated polyether. This product, partially cooled, is mixed with N,N-dimethylformamide in a high-shear mixer, and with hydrazine, and diethylamine (in dimethylformamide), and the mixture passes to a reaction chamber. To the resulting polymer solution, are added a slurry of titanium dioxide, a solution of poly-(N,N-diethyl-beta-aminoethyl methacrylate), and a solution of 4,41-butylidenebis-(6-t-butyl-m-cresol), each in dimethylformamide.
