Abstract

978,812. Electrophotographic copying apparatus for use with heat sensitive copy material W. ZINDLER, [trading as LUMOPRINT ZINDLER KOMM.-GES.]. May 2, 1961 [May 11, 1960], No. 15869/61. Headings G2C and G2H. In an electrophotographic copying apparatus comprising guide means for moving an electrophotographic coating on a backing successively through a charging device for electrostatically charging the coating and an exposure device for forming a latent electrostatic image in the coating. further guide means are arranged to guide a copy sheet in contact with the electrophotographic coating past a heat radiator disposed immediately after the exposure device along the path of advance of the electrophotographic coating and having a black filter, the heat radiator serving to produce an image in heat sinsitive substances on the copy sheet in accordance with the differences in the heat conductivity of the electrophotographic coating caused by the formation of the latent electrostatic image. As shown, the device comprises a transparent cylinder 5 rotatably mounted on spring urged or resilient rollers 8, 9 and supporting an electrophotographic layer 7. The cylinder is rotated by means of a further spring-urged or resilient roller 10 connected by belt drive 43 to a motor 42 so as to guide the layer 7 successively past a charging station 41, an exposure station 14 and into contact with a roller 6 enclosing a heat radiating lamp 27. The roller 6 is formed of black glass and is resiliently urged into engagement with the layer 7 by spring-urged or resilient rollers 29, 30. On feeding an original sheet into opening 19, it is transported between rollers 10 and 22, past the station 14 where the layer 7 is reflexly exposed to produce a latent electrostatic image thereon and is finally ejected from the device through exit opening 20. As the original sheet passes between rollers 23 and 11, the roller 23 is displaced radially or roller 11 sufficiently to engage a copy sheet which was inserted into opening 24 at the same time as the original was inserted into opening 19 and which was for a time retained in the nip between the roller 23 and a sprung end part of a guide member 25. The heat sensitive copy sheet (such as is disclosed in Specification 978,811) is thereby fed past the heat radiator 27 in super-position with the latent electrostatic image on layer 7. The copy sheet which now bears a visible image is ejected through an opening 36 into a tray 35. Switches such as 40, 55 in the path of the copy sheet may be provided for actuating the lamp 27. Members 15-17, 10, 22 and 23 are constructed in a light-tight manner to restrict light from lamps 45, 46 to the region of the exposure station, the light-tight arrangement of roller 22 and guide member 16 being shown in Fig. 5. Ventilating holes 4 are provided in the base of the cabinet 1. An alternative construction of the guide channels 19, 20, 24 is illustrated in Fig. 2-not shown.
