Abstract
978,183. Ultrasonic probes. CARL ZEISS JENA VEB. June 28, 1963, No. 25834/63. Heading H4J. Two cylindrically - curved piezo - electric elements 13, 14 operating as emitter and receiver respectively are so cemented to wedges 11, 12 of plastic material adapted to be placed on a test specimen 5 that their wave radiation fields diverge towards the specimen and overlap each other. The outer marginal rays 16, 18 of the two fields are perpendicular to the surface of the specimen 5 while the inner marginal rays 15, 17 intersect each other just beneath the surface. The wedges 11, 12 are separated by a sound-insulating layer 19 of cork or the like and have sound-dispersing corrugations 20 on their outer edges.
