978,069. Exercising and amusement apparatus. NISSEN CORPORATION. May 24, 1963 [May 28, 1962; June 22, 1962], No. 20868/63. Heading A6M. Apparatus for recreational exercise comprises at least one trampoline bed and an element defining a path for a missile said path spaced above the bed by an amount greater than the upward reach of a player standing stationary on said bed. In the embodiments of Figs. 1 and 6, there is a double trampoline bed for a pair of players 9 and 9b, respectively, with an intervening double screen 21 and 68, respectively. The embodiment of Fig. 1 includes a tunnel 16 through the screen at a height greater than a player could reach while standing stationary on the bed. Pendulums 32 are arranged behind each player which when hit by a ball 18 thrown through the tunnel 16 rings a bell. The embodiment of Fig. 6 has a captive ball 18b suspended on a cord 61 attached to a cross-cord 63 which may slide between stops 67 on parallel wires 166 stretched between rear nets 69. An alternative embodiment is described with reference to Fig. 4 for a single player who may throw a ball 18a through the tunnel 16a at objects 32a lightly adhering to a moving belt 54.
