977,280. Fire-extinguishers. WALTER KIDDE CO. Ltd. Sept. 30, 1963 [Oct. 19, 1962], No. 39607/62. Heading A5A. A portable fire-extinguisher of the type which discharges free-flowing fluids, especially vaporizing liquid medium, comprises a container 1 having an outlet 2 at its upper end and a dip-tube 3 extending to near the bottom of the container. A manually operable valve 4 at the top of the container incorporates a swivel coupling comprising a tubular swivel portion 19 rotatably mounted in a bearing 20 in a cavity in the valve body 8, through which the valve communicates to a flexible hose 6 connected to a discharge horn 5, which is provided with securing means comprising a tubular section 24 carrying a socket member 26 with spring- loaded ball catch 28, whereby the horn may be releasably connected to a spigot 23 on the swivel coupling. The extinguisher is operated by a spring-loaded trigger 12, which operates the valve, and may be used one-handed in the vertical position when the horn is attached to the swivel coupling, or two-handed when the container &c. is held by the handle 10 in the vertical position and the horn is manipulated by the other hand.
