Abstract

976,425. Emptying containers; packaging machines. ARENCO A.B. Jan. 17, 1963 [July 9, 1962], No. 2183/63. Headings B8C and B8T. A tube-filling machine has means for directly conveying rows of tubes 17 to tube holders 36 from cartons 4 which are fed upside down on a conveyer 3, said tubes falling first into an auxiliary supporting surface 15 and then on to a main supporting surface 16. The main supporting surface is removed to allow the tubes to fall into auxiliary tube-holders 18; the auxiliary tube-holders are then spaced apart by a scissors mechanism such that each auxiliary tube-holder is above a main tubeholder 36. A second main supporting surface 34 is removed and the tubes fall into the main tube-holders, said tubes then being fed to the filling part of the machine. A row of tubes 17 resting on the main supporting surface 16 moves in the direction of motion of the conveyer and interrupts a photo-electric beam 55, which actuates a clutch 44, through which the conveyer is driven, disengaging said clutch and thus stopping the conveyer. At the same time compressed air actuates a pneumatic member 26, extending a piston 28, thus removing the main supporting surface 16 from beneath the tubes and allowing the tubes to fall into the auxiliary tube-holders. A scissor mechanism 37 is manoeuvred by means of a fork 38 and piston 39 to position each auxiliary tube-holder above a main tube-holder 36, into which the tubes fall when the plate 34 is removed by pneumatic means 35. An alternative embodiment may include a spot 58 on the carton wall which reflects a photo-electric beam, the varying intensity of the reflection actuating, in known manner, the mechanism of the machine. Furthermore, the various members may be manoeuvred by cam discs instead of by pneumatic means. Specification 895,900 is referred to.
