Abstract
976,169. Read-only memories. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. Aug. 20, 1963 [Sept. 4, 1962], No. 33826/62. Heading G4A. In a diode read-only memory or code-converter comprises a number of arrays 7 in which the diodes selectively connect the drive lines 6 with sense lines 8. One drive line from each array is connected to voltage source 5 and one sense line from each array to a switch 10. By actuating one source and closing one switch the required connection is made. In the embodiment shown all the sense lines of an array are threaded through a magnetic core 8 which functions as a transformer, the data output being taken from a secondary winding 9. A modification, eliminating the cores and having a switch for every sense line so that one switch for each array has to be closed is also described. Other coupling elements such as magnetic cores, linear or non- linear resistors, or capacitors could be used instead of the diodes.
