Abstract

975,304. Flash guns. EASTMAN KODAK CO. June 21, 1963 [June 22, 1962; Oct. 24, 1962], No. 24714/63. Heading G2A. A device for firing a flash lamp comprises a flash lamp socket connected through a first switch to a source of electric power, a shunt circuit with a second switch arranged parallel to the socket and means for sequentially closing the second switch, the first switch and opening the second switch. The means may also simultaneously operate a camera shutter. In the camera shown in Fig. 1, the shutter 18 has a slot 26 for uncovering aperture 28, is pivoted at 20 and is operated by means of a strip 38<1> in a slidable release 38 which engages notches 42, 44 of a lever 34 alternatively, lever 34 and blade 18 being connected by a spring 30. Flash lamp 50 and its power source 48 are connected in series between pin 48 on lever 38 and pivot pin 36 of lever 34. The shunt circuit includes the blade 18 and a lead between steps 22, 24 for the blade. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 3 shutter blade 58 is spring urged clockwise but is latched in its cocked position by lever 64 pivoted at 68. It is released by slide 72 and cocked by the manual anticlockwise rotation of cover-blade 84 which engages a pin 88 on blade 58. The lamp 92 and battery 10 are arranged between springs 74, 70 engaging levers 72, 64 respectively and lamp 92 is shunted through spring 62, blade 58 and lever 64. In similar embodiment the shutter blade is spring urged into a cocked position and is operated by a hammer release lever. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 6, shutter blade 49 is pivoted at 51 and is operated by the depression of levers 17, 31 which release a hammer lever 37 pivoted at 39. Lever 31 is conducting and is electrically insulated from lever 17, contact 75 of lever 31 is always in engagement with contact 73. Contact 73 is connected through flash lamp 21 and battery 57 to contact 63 with which lever 31 engages when it is depressed. Levers 37, 31 are connected in parallel with lamp 21. In the above embodiment camera parts 18, 34, 38, 38<1>, 58, 64, 72, 37, 31 are electrically conductive, and blade stops 22, 24, 104, 130 and lever supporting pins 33 are adjustable during manufacture of the camera so that the shutter characteristics correspond with those of the flash.
