Abstract

974,292. Motor vehicle lighting. VAUXHALL MOTORS Ltd. May 16, 1963 [May 17, 1962], No. 19044/62. Heading B7H. [Also in Division G4] In a motor vehicle side and tail lamp circuit comprising a selector switch 16 which is connected through a master lighting switch 10 to the vehicle battery and includes an arcuate contactor 18 engageable with either or both of fixed contacts 20, 22 for illumination of L.H. and R.H. side and tail lamps 28, 30 and 24, 26 either together or separately for parking, a relay 44 is energized when the vehicle ignition switch is closed to interconnect the circuits on opposite sides of the vehicle thereby ensuring that the lamps are illuminated on both sides when the vehicle is driven. The circuit of the L.H. side and tail lamps 28, 30 supplies a number-plate lamp 32 and includes a connection A for a lead 92 (Fig. 2) supplying the coil 90 of a night dimmer relay 60 in a signalling circuit for rear direction indicator lamps 52, 56 and stop lamps 58. This arrangement ensures that when the R.H. side and tail lamps 24, 26 only are illuminated (i.e. during normal parking) the coil 90 will be de-energized to prevent current wastage. The signalling circuit includes a flasher unit 62, an indicator switch 64 for front indicator lamps 50, 54 and the rear indicator lamps 52, 56, and a brake-operated switch 74 for the stop lamps 58. The night dimmer relay 60 includes switches 70, 72, 76 connected in parallel with dimmer resistances 92, 94, 96, and a balance resistance 82 which ensures a constant flashing rate for both day and night conditions.
