973,512. Screw sockets. A. FISCHER. April 30, 1962, No. 16468/62. Heading F24. A plug for fixing a plate 2 to a wall 1 comprises a tubular body having a rear portion 5, permitting the free passage of a screw 8, and a front portion 6 with a thread 6a engageable with the screw. The end portions 5 and 6 are connected by an intermediate portion having longitudinal divisions 4 and incorporating locking projections 4a. The divisions are smaller in cross section at the rear end portion 5 than at the front portion 6 to reduce their resistance to bending. The divisions are radially compressed when the plug is passed through the bore 1b of the wall and subsequently expand beneath the surface la except for the part of the divisions immediately adjacent the rear portion 5. When the inserted screw is tightened the front portion 6 is drawn towards the rear portion 5 with subsequent bending of the divisions 4. At the same time the locking projections 4a penetrate the wall 1 to axially and rotationally secure the plug. The plugs may be provided with two or more divisions and may be made from synthetic plastics material.
