Abstract

972,451. Weighing apparatus. OXYGENAIRE (LONDON) Ltd. Oct. 8, 1963 [July 9, 1962], No. 866/62. Heading G1W. Weighing apparatus particularly for determining the weight of persons who are undergoing medical treatment or are unable to be weighed on normal weighers comprises a mattress 1 having a flexible top and containing a fluid and which may be divided into a plurality of intercommunicating chambers. The fluid pressure in the mattress is communicated to indicator gauges 5, 6 and a recorder 7. The mattress may be placed under the normal mattress of a bed and inflated by liquid or air. In operation the gauge 5 is set at zero and a person is then supported on the mattress and his weight may be read directly. With the person still on the mattress the gauge 6 is set at zero and any subsequent change in weight is shown thereon, the gauge 6 having a centre zero and having finer calibrations than the gauge 5. The recording device 7 may be set to record directly either the weight of the person or his change in weight, and may be electrical. The mattress 1 may be of thermoplastic sheet.
