972,205. Skin packs. DOW CHEMICAL CO. April 4, 1963, No. 13476/63. Heading B8C. A non-aromatic olefin polymer film to be vacuum formed on to a skin pack has its bonding surface oxidized, and coated with a thin layer of a polyalkyleneimine, to improve the bond. The oxidation may be produced by flame treatment or an electrostatic treatment, or may comprise the oxidation which results from high temperature manufacture as, for example, by chilled-roller casting or by extrusion into a water bath. The polyalkyleneimine may be applied in solution in water or in a suitable organic solvent, of which the Specification gives several examples, and may be sprayed on the film. Alternatively, the polyalkyleneimine is preferably comprised of alkylene units of less than about 4 carbon atoms, and may be polyethyleneimine. Preferred properties of the polyalkyleneimines are set out in the Specification. The Specification also sets out preferred polymers for use as the film. The treated film may be formed over articles resting on a porous paperboard through which the drawing vacuum is applied. The paperboard may be sized and printed. A release agent on the film may facilitate stripping.
