Abstract

970,634. Driving arrangements for spinning &c. machines. T.M.M. (RESEARCH) Ltd. April 4,1963 [April 6,1962 ], No. 13376/62. Heading D1D. [Also in Division G3] In a programmed control system for a textile speed frame the spindles and bobbins are driven by step-by-step motors controlled by pulses derived from a pair of tracks on a magnetic tape. Each track is produced by recording the output of an oscillator which is amplitude modulated by switching the bias between two levels. The bias switching during recording is effected by a commutator comprising a shaft 11, Fig. 1, carrying four axially spaced commutator rings 12-15. The rings 12,13 are interrupted to form semicircular segments 16-19 and rings 14,15 are continuous. The interconnection of the rings is such as to insert a direct connection in a grid-bias circuit to an oscillator 24 during one half of a revolution of the shaft 11 and a predetermined direct bias voltage during the other half-cycle. Recording. A record of a package build-up cycle is prepared by employing a conventional speed frame having a constant speed drive to the spindles and a variable speed drive to the bobbins which compounds, through a differential gear, the constant speed drive with a variable speed drive from a variable ratio cone drum unit, or, alternatively, a special machine of conventional type having one or a small number of spindles. The output of the differential gear is arranged to drive the commutator to produce one track in the tape and subsequently the second track is prepared by recording the variable speed of the cone drum unit. Alternatively, two commutators are employed and the tracks recorded simultaneously. Reproduction. A textile speed frame, Fig. 2, adapted to be controlled by the programme tape has spindles driven by a constant speed motor 25 and bobbins and lifter rails driven by electric motors 26 and 27 controlled by the tape 28. The tape is fed from a spool 29 past two reproducing heads 30, 31 to a take-up spool 32. The tape is driven from the constant speed motor 25 by a roller 33 and a pressure roller 61 and the tape speed is adjusted by altering the axial position of roller 33 which is tapered Each head 30, 31 controls a corresponding step-by-step motor 26,27 amplifiers 34, 40 and thyratron speed control units 35, 41.
