Abstract
A therapeutic preparation for the treatment of tumours comprises spores of Clostridium butyricum ATCC 13732 in admixture or conjunction with a physiologically tolerable carrier for parenteral administration. The preparation may be an aqueous suspension or lyophilized solid. A bacterial endotoxin, e.g. a lipopolysaccharide from gram-negative bacteria, may also be present. The spores of Clostridium butyricum ATCC 13732 may be produced by cultivating the microorganism according to known methods for the cultivation of this species until a substantial sporulation is achieved, washing the spores with physiological saline, bringing them into aqueous suspension, killing the bacteria present in the resulting aqueous suspension by heating to 73 DEG C. and adjusting the resultant dispersion of spores to the desired concentration.
