Abstract

Cement compositions comprise Portland cement, aggregates and from 5 to 40% by weight of the cement of a copolymer of (a) 80 to 95% by weight of vinyl chloride and/or vinylidene chloride; and (b) acrylic and/or methacrylic esters of alcohols containing 1 to 6 carbon atoms. Specified aggregates are sand, lime and gravel. The copolymer may be added as a dry powder or in aqueous dispersion, and the compositions may also comprise non-ionic surface active agents, e.g. t-octyl phenyl ethers of polyoxyethylene glycols, and silicone anti-foaming agents.ALSO:Cementing compositions comprise Portland cement, aggregates and from 5 to 40% by weight of the cement of a copolymer of (a) 80 to 95% by weight of vinylchloride and/or vinylidene chloride and (b) acrylic and/or methacrylic esters of alcohols containing 1 to 6 carbon atoms. Specified aggregates are sand, lime and gravel. The copolymer may be added as a dry powder or in aqueous dispersion, and the compositions may also comprise non-ionic surface active agents, e.g. t.octyl phenyl ethers of polyoxyethylene glycols, and silicone antifoaming agents. An example describes a composition comprising Portland cement, silica sand, a silicone antifoaming agent and an aqueous dispersion of a vinylidene chloride-methyl acrylate copolymer stabilized with a polyoxyethylated t.octylphenol. The compositions may be used for repairing and resurfacing roads and floors, making cement-bonded roofing and building blocks and surfacing wood, glass, mild steel and old concrete.ALSO:Substrates may be coated by trowelling with cementing compositions comprising Portland cement, aggregates and from 5-40% by weight of the cement of a copolymer of (a) 80-95% by weight of vinyl chloride and/or vinylidene chloride and (b) acrylic and/or methacrylic esters of alcohols containing 1-6 carbon atoms. Specified aggregates are sand, lime and gravel. An example describes the coating of wood, glass, mild steel and old concrete with compositions comprising Portland cement, silica sand, a silicone antifoaming agent and an aqueous dispersion of a vinylidene chloride-methyl acrylate copolymer stabilized with a polyoxyethylated t.octyl phenol.
