Abstract

970,064. Swaging machines. GESELLSCHAFT FUR FERTIGUNGSTECHNIK UND MASCHINENBAU GESELLSCHAFT m.b.H. March 14, 1961 [March 18, 1960], No. 9213/61. Heading B3H. [Also in Division F1] In a swaging machine whose hammers are actuated by eccentrics journalled in housings which are rotatably adjustable in unison by an hydraulic piston 5, Fig. 1, for varying the stroke position and which includes a workpiece feed device 9 actuated by a further hydraulic piston 10, the movements of the two pistons are determined by rollers 13, 14 coupled together for stepwise rotation and driving a rotary valve 42, Fig. 8, connected in series with a plurality of pairs of pre-set control Valves 44, 45 which determine the pressure liquid acting on the pistons 10, 5 respectively and which corresponding in numbers to the steps of the rollers. The eccentric housings 3, Fig. 2 (not shown), are adjusted by a central gear 4 coupled through gearing 8 with a rack 7 connected to piston 5 working in cylinder 11. Feed device 9, which may also rotate the workpiece, is connected directly to piston 10 working in cylinder 12. Both pistons are supplied continuously with pressure liquid to their inner faces through pipes 49, 50 whereby the feed device is biased outwardly and the hammers are biased to their outer positions. Rack 7 and feed device 9 carry roller followers 19 which cooperate successively with a plurality of longitudinally adjustable projections 16, 17 on the rollers 13, 14 interconnected by helical gearing 15. When a follower 19 engages one of these projections it initiates a stepwise rotation of the rollers. This initial movement actuates through a cam wheel 20, a spring-biased limit switch 21 controlling a magnetically-actuated valve 27, Fig. 4, which connects a pressure oil supply 32 with a pipe 33 leading to piston 29 whose rack teeth engage a quadrant gear 30 having a one-way ratchet drive with roller 13. Piston 29 thus moves to the right thereby rotating through a complete step the rollers 13, 14 and rotary valve 42 connected thereto by gearing 40, 41. Upon completion of this rotation, gear 30 actuates a limit switch 37 for reversing valve 27 which returns piston 29 to the left. Rotary valve 42 connects the outer ends of the cylinders 11, 12 successively with pairs of control valves 45, 44 which can be preset to communicate with a pressure oil pipe 48 or an exhaust 56 or alternatively can be closed. Each valve 44, 45 includes an outer adjustable shell 46 which determines the forward reverse movement of the piston 10, 5, and an inner throttle 47 which determines the speed of movement of the respective piston. Thus the setting of valves 44, 45 controls the shape of the workpieces. Manual valves 64, 65 incorporating throttles 66, 67 are provided for emergency control. Detachable cams on a disc 68, Fig. 1, control a limit switch 69 for ensuring the rollers are brought back to their starting position. A further limit switch 70, Fig. 8, is actuated by pre-set abutments 75 aligned with the valves 44, 45 for determining any delay in the stepwise movement of the roller in case prolonged swaging is required at one point,in the workpiece.
