Abstract
969,875. Conduit connections. BENDIX CORPORATION. Sept. 25, 1962 [Oct. 19, 1961], No. 36423/62. Heading F2G. [Also in Division B3] A conduit 36 having a plastic inner tube 31 and at least one outer tube 32 composed of a layer of interlaced filamentary material, e.g. wire, overlying and closely embracing the inner tube has secured thereto a fitting 10 comprising a tubular inner sleeve 21 telescoped within the inner tube of the conduit, a rigid tubular outer sleeve of ductile material telescoped over the outer tube of the conduit and connected to the sleeve 21 as by a weld 20, the outer sleeve being indented in a plurality of longitudinally extending zones 40 angularly spaced about the fitting, the zones of indentation covering a predominant portion of the angular extent of the periphery of the outer sleeve and those zones strongly engaging the outer tube 32 of the conduit and thrusting the inner tube of the conduit into forcible, axial load-sustaining relationship with the inner sleeve of the fitting. A plurality of stepped annular shoulder formations are provided on the inner sleeve. As shown, prior to attaching the fitting to the conduit the latter is coated by dipping with a phenolic resin-rubber composition or, preferably, a chlorosulfonated polyethylene base material thinned with a solvent, and the tube 31 is expanded to substantially the outer diameter of the sleeve 21 by the use of a hot mandrel so that, on cooling, the tube shrinks to firmly engage the sleeve.
