Abstract

969,278. Protective systems. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. April 9, 1963 [May 15, 1962], No. 18712/62. Heading H2K. In an apparatus, e.g. a rectifier equipment, having a plurality of fuses which may fail independently, the fuses have switching contacts S1 . . . Sn connected in a circuit across which is connected a parallel branch circuit containing means RL for providing an alarm. The failure of one or more fuses and the consequent operation of the associated switching contacts causes the ratio between the resistances of the parallel circuits to vary, the alarm means RL being operated when the ratio reaches a value corresponding to the failure of a predetermined number of fuses. The combined resistance of the parallel circuits also varies so that the total current taken indicates the number of failed fuses. In the arrangement shown the contacts S1 . . . Sn open when the associated fuses fail to remove the short circuits from resistors R2. A milliammeter M may be directly calibrated to indicate the number of failed fuses. Several circuits containing switching contacts may be associated with a common parallel branch circuit, half-wave rectifiers being provided to prevent interaction between the several circuits, Fig. 2 (not shown).
