Abstract
The invention comprises compounds of the general formula: R1SO2NHCH2CH2SP(S)(OR)2 wherein R is a C1-C5 alkyl radical and R1 is an aryl radical which may be substituted. They may be obtained by the following reaction: <FORM:0969080/C1/1> Instead of the beta-chloro starting materials the beta-bromo and beta-iodo compounds may also be used. The reaction may be carried out in a solvent, preferably a polar solvent, and in the presence of a tertiary amine or dimethyl formamide as catalyst. The radical R1 is preferably a phenyl, p-toluyl, p-chlorophenyl, 3,4-dichlorophenyl, 2,5-dimethylphenyl, m-nitrophenyl or 2,5-dichlorophenyl radical. The products have herbicidal properties (see Division A5).ALSO:Weeds in soil are controlled by applying to the soil a compound of the general formula R1SO2NHCH2CH2SP(S)(OR)2 wherein R is a C1-C5 alkyl radical and R1 is an aryl radical which may be substituted (see Division C2). The radical R1 is preferably a phenyl, p-toluyl, p-chlorophenyl, 3,4-dichlorophenyl, 2,5 - dimethylphenyl, m - nitrophenyl or 2,5-dichlorophenyl radical. The active compound may be applied in solution.
