Abstract

A lubricating oil composition comprises a lubricating oil and (a) an oil-soluble phosphorus-containing complex of an alkali- or alkaline-earth colloidal metal carbonate, prepared by dissolving an alkyl phenol and a phosphosulphurized polyolefin in a base oil and adding metal base and CO2 in the presence of water to obtain a metal/phosphorus weight ratio not less than 15: 1, e.g. as described in Specification 921,124, and (b) an oil-soluble alkali- or alkaline-earth metal sulphonate.
