Abstract

The invention relates to a process for dyeing or printing textile material such as fibres, filaments, threads, flocks, woven fabrics and knitted fabrics, by the process of Specification 923,162. The present invention however employs azo dyes or the precursors thereof which contain at least one -NH- group in heterocyclic combination, and when precursors are used the azo dye is formed by coupling on the fibre. The invention includes dye liquors and printing pastes which in addition to the azo dyes or precursors thereof contain, alkaline reacting agents and poly-functional compounds containing two or more H2C=CH-CO-groups attached by way of nitrogen or compounds capable of forming such groups under alkaline conditions. Metal complex dyes of the above azo dyes may be used and metalization may take place after printing or dyeing, metals specified are chromium, cobalt and copper. Azo dyes and precursors derived from the following groups are used pyrrole, pyrazole, imidazole, triazole, tetrazole, indole, indazole, benzimidazole, benztriazole, piperazine, imidazoline, benzindole, naphthindole, naphthimidazole, naphthoindazole, aziminonaphthalene, perimidine, carbazole and benzoxazolene. Many diazo compounds and coupling compounds of the above types are specified. Cotton and rayon fabrics are specified.
