A scratching device particularly for use by cats comprises a block, post or pad of cellular form and of a material which an animal can abrade by scratching and incorporating an animal attracting medium. The device 17 comprises strips of corrugated cardboard secured together and located in a box or tray 10 having a closure flap 11 scored across its width so that the half 11a can be folded over the half 11b to bring holes 16 in each half into alignment whereby the device can be suspended from a hook or nail.
