Abstract
<PICT:0967654/C1/1> To produce electrically-conducting filmed glass sheets, the sheet is heated to substantially the softening point of the glass, the electrically - conducting material is spraying in a filming solution on one surface only of the heated sheet and, while the sheet is still hot, the unfilmed surface of the sheet is subsequently chilled. The sheet 11 is suspended by tongs 27 on a carriage 26 having rollers 25 for movement on a monorail 14 through a furnace 15, past a spraying mechanism 16, a chilling air blower 17 and tempering blowers 18 by which the sheet is chilled finally on both sides to temper it. The spray mechanism 16 comprises spray guns 28 mounted by brackets 29 one above the other on a rod 30 and fixed by screws 31. The filming solution and atomizing air are supplied respectively through conduits 34, 32 and supply lines 35, 33. The suggested spraying solution is of stannic chloride in isopropyl alcohol and the guns 28 are approximately 23 inches from the glass surface a . The blowers 17 and 18 comprise aligned pipes 36, 42 respectively supplied with air by conduits 37, 41, that of blower 17 escaping through openings 38 to impinge on the surface b of the sheet and thereby remove the bow imparted during spraying. The pipes 42 have similar openings so that the air impinges equally on both sides and the pipes 42 are mounted for reciprocal movement on wheels 43 running on tracks 44 by means of arms 45 on cranks 46 keyed in opposed relation to opposite ends of a drive shaft 47. The operation may be continuous or, if necessary, the sheet may be stopped during the final tempering between blowers 18.
