A carton, e.g. of cardboard, containing a roll of sheet material has a wall 2 provided with a serrated edge 3 over which the material may be severed, the wall being of double thickness made by forming a line of arcuate slits and folding the cardboard about this line whereby the converse portion 3 of cardboard stands proud of the concave portion on each side of a slit to form the serrations.
