The stator 1 of a hermetically sealed motor compressor unit comprises a plurality of superposed flat plates lying in parallel planes perpendicular to the axis of the rotor and having dimension in one direction perpendicular to the axis shorter than in the other direction and the compressor casing has two parallel wall portions lying one on each side of the stator and two wall portions lying on each side of the compressor 5, one of said latter walls being inclined towards the compressor.
