Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the general formula: <FORM:0966493/C1/1> and their acid addition salts in which R1 represents a phenyl, 4-methoxy phenyl or 3,4-dimethoxyphenyl radical, R2 represents a 2-pyridyl, phenyl, 2-halophenyl, 2-alkoxyphenyl or 2-alkylphenyl radical (the alkyl and alkoxy radicals containing 1 to 3 carbon atoms) and X represents a linear or branched divalent saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon radical containing 3 or 4-carbon atoms and the preparation thereof either by reacting a piperazine of the formula: <FORM:0966493/C1/2> with a halide R1-X-Hal in the presence of an alkaline agent capable of fixing the hydrohalic acid formed during the reaction or when the carbon atom of X bonded to the nitrogen atom is part of the methylene radical) with an acid R1-Y-COOH or an ester R1-Y-COOH where Y represents a saturated or unsaturated linear or branched divalent aliphatic hydrocarbon radical containing 2 or 3 atoms and A represents a C1- 4 alkyl radical in a reaction medium which permits the elimination of the water formed during the reaction or with an acid chloride R1-Y-CO-Hal or acid anhydride (R1-Y-CO)2O in the presence of an alkaline agent then, in each case, reacting the intermediate formed with a double metal hydride and decomposing the complex with water.ALSO:Pharmaceutical compositions useful as potentiators of barbiturates or as adrenolytics, hypotensors and central nervous system depressants comprise one or more compounds of the general formula <FORM:0966493/A5-A6/1> and their acid addition salts in which R1 represents a phenyl, 4-methoxyphenyl or 3,4-dimethoxyphenyl radical, R2 represents a 2-pyridyl, phenyl, 2-halophenyl, 2-alkoxyphenyl, or 2-alkyl phenyl (the alkyl and alkoxy groups containing 1-3 carbon atoms) and X represents a linear or branched divalent saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon radical containing 3- or 4-carbon atoms on an inert carrier. The compositions are in forms suitable for oral rectal and parenteral administration.
