A process for mixing together different types of fibres comprises passing several layers 1-7, each of one of the types of fibres to be mixed, to a spiked apron N for carrying away fibre from all the layers in a substantially vertical direction, and then during the time in which the lengths of all the layers are reduced by L/S where L is the maximum length of layer 1 and S is the number of layers, adding further fibre to each layer of the required type for that layer in succession to lengthen all the layers by L/S. Fibres either slide down the whole shoot formed by flaps K 1 -K 6 to the bottom layer, or through an open flap to the end of the layer directly beneath it. The flaps may be opening, in turn from K 1 to K 6 , by a cam on an endless chain, Fig. 2 (not shown) and held open by a detent, till each is released in turn by a further cam on the chain. Alternatively the flaps may be operated pneumatically or electrically.
