In a dynamo-electric machine, e.g. the motor of a domestic heating system circulating pump unit, which includes an unwound, e.g. squirrelcage rotor member 26 arranged for operation submerged in near-boiling water and a stator member 19 whose wire 20 and electrical winding 21 are enveloped in an electrically-insulating resin mass 23, a tubular shielding member 24 for protecting the mass against exposure to the water is disposed in the air gap between the rotor and stator members and is formed of a plastics material which is resistant to degradation by prolonged exposure to the water. The mass 23 may be on either epoxy or polyester resin, and the shielding member 24 may be of polypropylene, high density polyethylene, or P.T.F.E.; the two extend across one end of the stator member and support one rotor bearing 25 the other 16, being carried in a pump end wall 15.
