Abstract

966,141. Capacitors. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. (Mix & Genest A.G.). Oct. 12, 1960, No. 34937/60. Heading H1M. [Also in Division H4] A co-ordinate arrangement of capacitors is used in a telephone substation for storing frequently required subscribers' numbers. Fixed electrodes 5, 6 (Figs. 3, 4) have a triangular shape and are all mounted on the same side of a plate 15 of insulating material. One electrode 5 and one electrode 6 together provide one cross-point. Conductors 1 to n form one set of conductors of the co-ordinate arrangement and each is continuous with its electrodes 5. Conductors 1 to m form a second set of conductors of the co-ordinate arrangement, are mounted on the opposite side of plate 15 and are connected through the plate 15 to the corresponding fixed electrodes 6. The co-ordinate arrangement relies on a binary code and an electrode 8 (Fig. 6) of anodized aluminium is provided on a strip 7 (Fig. 5) at those points denoted by 1, 2, 4, 8 whenever a " 1 " appears in the code at this point. Electrode 8 bridges electrodes 5, 6 of a cross-point. If a " 0 " appears in the code then electrode 8 is dispensed with. A spring 16 presses strip 7 against plate 15 and rests against one of a pair of earthed metallic screens 14, 14<SP>1</SP>. Specification 918,603 is referred to.
