A washing machine cabinet has a plastics top 1 which is mounted on the vertical walls 5 of the cabinet by means of sliding connections which enable it to expand and contract freely. In the first embodiment (Fig. 1) the top 1 has a flange 3 provided parallel to the periphery 2 of the top, and between the parts 2 and 3 is engaged a flange 4 projecting from the vertical wall 5. In the second embodiment (Fig. 6) the vertical wall 5 has two parallel flanges 11 and 12 between which engages the top 1. Specification 959,538 is referred to.
