Abstract

A machine for the continuous processing of sheet material includes supporting means for material passing through the machine, and at least one application or treatment roller arranged to contact the surface of the material, the roller being located a predetermined minimum distance from the support and arranged to allow at least limited movement of the roller with respect to the support with the roller maintained parallel to the support during such movement so as to accommodate variation in the thickness of material passing through the machine in excess of a nominal minimum. The support means may be a plurality of belts which may be driven in the opposite direction to the application roller. In a described embodiment the roller is maintained parallel to the support by a system of cranks, cantilevers and rods whereby any movement of one end of the roller is transmitted to the other end.
