[Also in Division H2] The body 5 of a contact-thermometer 2 controlling the temperature of a liquid bath 1 is surrounded by a jacket 8 through which may circulate an auxiliary liquid which is itself maintained at a preset temperature, e.g. by an auxiliary thermostatic control system, so that the thermometer 2 is protected from external influences. The temperature of the auxiliary liquid may be varied to influence the mercury column 4 of the thermometer thus enabling the preset temperature of the bath to be controlled more precisely. The auxiliary liquid may comprise the liquid of the bath itself.
