Abstract

960,471. Machine tool details. E. GASSNER. Oct. 16, 1961 [Oct. 15, 1960], No. 36972/61. Heading B3B. A quick acting tension joint for a vice, clamp &c. has interengageable bore and shaft parts adapted to be locked one within the other by co-operating projections and grooves which in one relative angular disposition of the parts serve to allow relative axial movement therebetween and in another relative angular disposition prevent such relative movement. As shown, a clamp 5 is provided with a support bolt 20 passing through a bore 15 of square cross-section in the support piece 11. The shaft has a circular core provided with spaced projections 22 and grooves 21, the cross-section of the shaft at such projections being square, the bore 15 having channels therein to receive the projections 22, the cross-section of the bore at the base of the channels being circular. In a modification the shaft and bore are rectangular in cross-section. The invention is applicable to a vice spindle and nut.
