Abstract

959,490. Brake shoes. J. F. HERNICK. Nov. 7, 1961 [May 10, 1961], No. 39891/61. Heading F2E. A brake shoe is provided with two bands of lining material 16, 16 secured to the brake shoe flange 6 on each side of a central linear zone which is stiffened by a web portion 8 of the brake shoe and the brake lining is made from stock shaped as shown in Fig. 3 wherein a thin fillet 20 connects the bands of lining material together. When machined by a cutter 22 shaped as in Fig. 4, the fillet 20 is removed and the upper corner of each band is rounded. By dividing the lining over the stiffened linear zone 10 it is stated that it will not be strained by deflection of the lateral portions 12 of the flange 6.
