956,583. Wire strainers; pipe joints. CLARKS POTTERIES Ltd. Jan. 19, 1961 [Feb. 22, 1960], No. 2213/61. Heading F2G. A tool for straining and securing wire 18 around pipes 16 connected by a sleeve 17 comprises clamping bodies 1, 2 pivotally connected to each other and adapted to carry out pivotal movements in relation to each other, and operating handles 11 pivotally connected respectively to the outer ends of the clamping bodies, the pivotal movements of the operating handles in relation to the bodies resulting in the clamping of the two ends 18a of the wire to the tool, while the pivotal movements of the clamping bodies in relation to each other as effected by the handles being for enabling application of strain on the wire around the pipe on which the wire is to be strained and secured. As shown, the clamping bodies 1, 2 are each formed with slots 8 and provided with clamping faces 9, and the inner ends of the handles have arcuate cams 13, preferably notched or serrated; with the ends of the wire positioned in the slots 8, the handles 11 are swung towards each other so that the cams press the ends of the wires against the faces 9 and the wire is tensioned.
