955,551. Bite detectors. C. CLARKE. Jan. 2, 1962 [Jan. 3, 1961], No. 179/61. Heading A1A. A bite detector for fishing rods comprises a rigid arm 1 having a cranked or hooked portion 2 at its outer end and a resilient portion 5 or its inner end, secured in a socket 6 or 6A adopted to be secured to the rod. The resilient portion 5 may be in the form of a rubber or like spigot having an axial bore for detachably accommodating a short offset flattened limb 3 of the rigid arm 1, or alternatively it may be in the form of either a helical or a laminated metal spring. The socket 6, Fig. 8, consists of a bush with a lug 9 by which it can be lashed to the rod, and the rocket 6A, Fig. 9, consists of a bush provided with a cutting edge 10 enabling it to be inserted into the butt 12 of the rod. The arm and socket may be of metal or plastic material. In use the hooked end 2 is engaged by a bight in the line 14 which slips off the end 2 when the fish bites.
