[Also in Division B8] A sleeve for an electrical component carries an identification mark which appears on a background panel which contrasts both with the mark and the sleeve. As shown in Fig. 1, the ohmic value of a resistor may be indicated by stretching over either the resistor or its terminal wires, a neutral coloured sleeve 10 of elastic material on the outer surface of which is printed through a stencil having a numeral masking, a background panel 11 having a oolour in accordance with the corresponding colour code of the numeral depicted on the stencil. Alternative embodiments are described in which either the sleeve 10 and mark 12 contrast against the neutral colour of the background panel and both have the colour according to the code or the sleeve, mark and panel are each of different colour. The coloured panels described are of rectangular shape or may extend the length of the sleeve as shown in Fig. 3. The advantage of the latter shape is that a series of short contiguous sleeves 10 may be out from a length of tubular sleeving 15 at the lines 16. Similarly sleeves having a series of numbers printed in panels of corresponding colours and joined to form a long tubular sleeve may subsequently be cut up into individual sleeves. For large diameter sleeving the panels 21 (Fig. 5) are repeatedly printed circumferentially to keep the area of imprinted sleeving surface to a minimum. The sleeve may be covered with a layer of transparent material to protect the printed panels.
