Abstract

955,404. Lighting hospital beds. S. G. DEHN. (H. L. Krieger, P. R. Freeman, and M. Bodian). Sept. 20, 1962, No. 35859/62. Heading F4R. A fixture for lighting hospital beds and providing services such as telephones, gas, suction supplies &c. is mounted on the existing wall and consists of a box to contain electric conductor and pipe terminals with connectors and control units therefor and at least one housing for fluorescent lamps mounted adjacent to the box and having an internal partition to provide a wiring conduit, a top diffuser plate for directing light upwards, a second diffuser plate for directing light downwards and forwards and a reflector plate so arranged that only a small part of the light from the lamps reaches the second diffuser plate, the reflector and second diffuser plate being supported by pivoted end-plates to provide access to the lamps. Two lamp housings may be fitted, one on each side of the box, for providing services. In the form shown, the housings are supported by wall plates 62 having outturned flanges 65, on the upper one of which the housing is secured by means of a hooked part 77 on a supporting body 72 having a forwardly projecting top member 73, a rearwardly projecting top member 76, a forwardly projecting bottom member 82 and a rearwardly projecting bottom member 81, the members 76, 81 serving to space the unit from the wall. A reflector plate 80 having a horizontal base 89 extends from a groove 74 in the body 72 to the underside of the member 73 to form a wiring channel. In front of the plate 80 is a space closed at the top by a diffusing plate 91 and at the front and bottom by a reflecting plate 101 having a vertical portion 102 with windows 103 which allow some light from the lamps 104 mounted above the plate 101 to reach a diffusing screen 93 mounted below the plate 101. End plates for the fixture supporting the plate 101 and screen 93 are pivoted to the front of the member 82 and can be tilted forward to permit access to the lamps 104. The space beneath the base 89 of the plate 80 may be used to house spotlights on extensible arms pivoted on the body 72.
