Abstract

Crystalline biaxially oriented polyolefin film is obtained by first extruding the polyolefin in the form of a seamless tube which is cooled and collapsed, and is then reinflated by a second isolated gaseous bubble while heating and drawing. Specified polyolefins are the homopolymers, copolymers and terpolymers of C2 to C20 olefins, in particular polyethylene, polypropylene and a copolymer of 4-Me-1-pentene and 3-Me-1-butene. The film finds application in packaging. Specifications 471,590 and 654,550 are referred to.
